Browser Compatibility: Asked & Answered
October 4th, 2008
A client wrote in and asked a question that I didn’t know the answer to, so I posted it to the twitter:
Where would you send a client looking for an article on designing for different browsers and conducting browser-compatibility testing?
One of the downsides of being a researcher and never actually doing the hard work is that you don’t know the answers to the important questions. However, I know people who do. Here are the responses I got back:
@jmspool I would recommend http://www.quirksmode.org/dom/compatibility.html and http://browsershots.org/
@jmspool http://www.netmechanic.com/products/Browser-Tutorial.shtml and http://www.justskins.com/design/browser-compatibility/137
@jmspool: My quirksmode.org is one of the best resources, even though it doesn’t contain an article about the basics, just lots of facts.
This article looks promising, too: http://anthonyshort.com.au/blog/comments/how-to-get-cross-browser-compatibility-everytime/. Is only about CSS, though.
@jmspool check out Browsershots: http://browsershots.org/ and Position is Everything http://www.positioniseverything.net/
Thanks everyone!
