Web ReDesign Redefined: Strategies for Success

Kelly Goto, Principal, gotomedia

Are you currently dealing with an outdated web site and unsure of the best steps to manage the web development process? Is your development team having trouble managing all of the content on the site? Are you trying to decide when you should redesign your web site? Are you trying to decide how to approach your site redesign in a strategic stages?

The most critical component of a site redesign is proper planning. Having a high-level roadmap to follow and approaching the redesign in strategic stages of development will allow focus on specific goals in iterative cycles. Having a comprehensive process to follow allows you and your team to be ‘on the same page’ throughout the process, ensuring proper communication and streamlined deliverables along the way. The end result is an experience that matches the brand vision of the company or organization, and meets or exceeds the expectations of your audience.

Every day, we see organizations dealing with the challenge of redesigning their web sites.  For example:

  • The designers of an educational institution's web site are challenged with re-branding and re-structuring their site's primary content areas to allow users to find information quickly and easily. This web project involves migrating thousands of pages to a new content management system, updating to a newly branded look and feel, and creating a new information structure
  • The development team of a large information-rich government web site are struggling to manage inefficient design processes and lacking in internal resources. There is no communication and often things are just thrown at me with little or no warning. What techniques can they use to help organize the design process?

To help deal with these challenges, we've turned to Kelly Goto, a premier user experience, research and interaction design expert, and author of the best-selling book, Web ReDesign: Workflow That Works. In her full-day seminar developed just for UI10, Kelly Goto will share all of the essential steps for creating a successful site design. Kelly has created a seminar that will show you a robust, 5-step process that can be applied to the development of any web site: The Core Process – resulting in a huge difference in the success of your web projects.

In this information-packed, full-day seminar, you will:

  1. Learn the five steps of the Core Process, including how to define your project, develop site structure, create a visual design, build and test the interface, and launch the web site. Updated tools, techniques and shortcuts will be added to your existing toolkit to enable you to develop a solid process that works with your team and in your organization.
  2. Learn how to integrate an iterative development strategy into your existing workflow, and see how to create a strategic roadmap for short and long-term initiatives. You will understand how to approach an overwhelming project in steps and stages starting with a strategic overview and then breaking down the initiatives into digestible, manageable pieces.
  3. See how to benchmark, using usability and competitive analysis, to determine a plan for addressing your site or intranet redesign. Utilize online tools and SEO (search optimization strategies) to assist in measuring success.
  4. Learn how to implement the ‘core process’ and apply it to faster cycles of development with smaller budgets and higher expectations. This core process is a framework and an approach for web design, redesign, intranets, applications and initiatives.
  5. See techniques for streamlining the visual design and information design process.
  6. Uncover how to approach the content management process more efficiently. Kelly will show you how to work with copywriters and content managers to create a process that works effectively with your workflow.

Who is this seminar for?

This session is geared towards project managers, web designers, web developers, content managers and copywriters, marketing managers, independent web professionals and in-house web development and web marketing teams.
