Spotlight Plenary, 8:30 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.
The Fuzzy Tail
David Armano, Vice President of Experience Design, Critical Mass
Times have changed. Design teams can no longer afford to over-analyze their challenges. We must try to get things launched—learn and refine. We must define ourselves and what we do more broadly. It's about going from left brain to right brain and ending up on "light brain". We must become "fuzzy." Where does your organization fall on the “fuzzy tail”? Do you find yourself working in fluid collaboration or structured silos? What does a typical user experience team look like for you? Can you neatly define and package who does what?
In his Spotlight Plenary presentation at User Interface 12, David Armano will discuss the “Fuzzy Tail,” taking an inspirational look at how what’s worked for us in the past may be the best solution for the future. As interdisciplinary teams “mix it up” in the conceptual, design and development process—we may see more lines and responsibilities blurring. Generalist and specialists will need to find new ways to work together in order to keep up the pace in a “2.0” world. This presentation will discuss a type of mindset and attitude that will be essential in this type of professional ecosystem. If the Long Tail is the what—then the Fuzzy Tail may just be the why.
